Advice on Wealth, Conduct, and Discipline

Proverbs 19:1-29

Chapter 19
1 A poor man who walks in his integrity is better than one with twisted lips, and he is a fool. 2 Also without knowledge of nephesh it is not good, and he who hastens with his feet sins. 3 The folly of Adam twists his way, and his heart rages against the LORD. 4 Wealth adds many friends, but a poor man is separated from his friend. 5 A witness of lies will not be cleared, and one who blows out falsehoods will not escape. 6 Many seek the face of a noble, and every man is a friend to one who offers gifts. 7 All the brothers of the poor hate him. Even his companions keep far from him. Pursuing, they say to him—they. 8 He who acquires a heart loves his life; he who keeps understanding will find good. 9 A false witness will not be acquitted, and one who breathes out deceptions will perish. 10 Delight is not befitting for a fool, even for a servant to rule over princes. 11 The wisdom of a man lengthens his nose, and his glory passes over transgression. 12 The growling of a lion is the rage of a king, and his favor is like dew upon herbage. 13 A son who is a vexation to his father is a son of a fool, and a constant dripping is an annoyance from a contentious woman. 14 House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers, but a woman of understanding comes from the LORD. 15 Laziness casts into a deep sleep, and a deceitful nephesh hungers. 16 He who keeps a commandment keeps his soul; he who despises his ways will die. 17 The LORD lends to the one showing grace to the oppressed, and he will confirm his repayment. 18 Discipline your son since there is hope, and do not lift your life force to put him to death. 19 A man of great wrath bears punishment; for if you deliver him, you will do it yet again. 20 Listen to counsel and accept discipline, in order that you may be wise in your latter end. 21 Many thoughts are in the heart of a man, but the counsel of the LORD will arise. 22 The desire of Adam is his steadfast love, and a good poor man is better than a man of deceit. 23 The fear of the LORD is for life, and satiety will dwell there; moral evil will not visit. 24 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not even bring it back to his mouth. 25 Strike a scoffer and the simple will become shrewd, and reprove the discerning and he will understand knowledge. 26 He who robs his father and flees—if a son shaming and digging. 27 Cease, my son, from hearing discipline, to stray from words of knowledge. 28 A worthless witness scoffs at justice, and the mouth of the wicked swallows iniquity. 29 Judgments have been established for scoffers, and beatings for the back of fools.
